Bilirubin, Direct: Like the Bilirubin, Total blood test, this test measures the amount of bilirubin in the bloodstream in order to assess liver health and function. Bilirubin is often found in small quantities within blood, but abnormal levels may be an indicator to liver disease. This test may be recommended to individuals who consume large quantities of alcohol or potentially have liver damage.

Fasting Required: You may be asked to fast for 4 hours prior to this test. If you are on medication, please consult with your healthcare provider prior to receiving this test. 

Who: Anyone over the age of 18 needing assessment of their liver. 

What: Blood Specimen. 

Why: To detect liver disease in combination with other tests.
