Blood Type & Rh Factor: The IV Lounge Blood Type Panel determines ABO blood group and Rh type. Potential blood types include: O positive, O negative, A positive, A negative, B positive, B negative, AB positive and AB negative. Type O negative is recognized as “the universal donor” and AB positive is known as the universal recipient. This information can be particularly useful in cases of emergency or other medically relevant blood treatments. Rh typing, either positive or negative, is mainly used to determine Rh immune globulin (present in red blood cells), providing particularly useful information for prenatal candidacy.
